1. “Every major American city is now showing cases” — In what way does that line, and the footage that goes with it (the run through empty NYC streets filled with trash) look, in any way, different from the trailer for a zombie movie?
This is why when people slag on genre shit, I get so angry, because recent genre fixations are, among other things, about preparing the way for those who are not familiar with past collective trauma and healing that trauma for those who are.
2. Jim Parsons’ face in that one shot. I mistake him for Colfer every time. I am always interested in narrative and visual things creators replicate, sometimes/often without knowledge.
3. That said, “To win a war you have to start one” is both a fantastic way of boiling down The Normal Heart into something one can just barely endure watching (hope of victory, active verbs), and a bucket of The Tropes of Ryan Murphy.
Ugh, work now, and I really just want to lay on my bed and stare at the ceiling for a while.
P.S., I won’t be spoiler warning for The Normal Heart, I don’t think, because spoiler warning for the 80s is just weird.
I wonder if people got angry when people spoilt the ending of Titanic.
